SENSA Oyster Bar and Asian Cuisine

Owner of SENSA Oyster BAR and ASIAN Cuisine, Yen Dung, invited my husband and I out to try her new restaurant in Kemah this evening. We tried so many wonderful dishes and cocktails! We started off with shrimp spring rolls and cheesy oysters. The spring rolls were XXTRA with fresh greens from the garden beds in front of the restaurant exploding through the tops of these cold tasty treats! The shrimp were big and plump and the flavor from the fresh greens and herbs made these extra delicious!
The cheesy oysters were topped with a combination of cheeses and were super creamy. I loved the charred tops. We had a lovely purple gin and tonic topped with edible flowers, a mint julep loaded with fresh mint, a mildly spicy strawberry cocktail that wasn’t too sweet at all, a couple others and the most beautiful old fashioned I’ve seen garnished with an orange rind wrapped around a cinnamon stick. I think Yen was trying to get me wasted.

We had pork and shrimp dumplings, a huge platter of Singapore noodles with chicken, shrimp and a wonderful curry flavor! The fried mango shrimp with mango purée and boba pearls on a bed of dressed greens were crunchy, big and tasty! The shrimp cocktail were also a nice size and served on shot glasses with ice and a spoonful of cocktail sauce. Horseradish cocktail sauce upon request!
Yen also brought out a scallop, crab and chicken soup with a little quail egg inside. The flavor of this simple-looking soup was unbelievable! I joked and told Yen she’d have to make me a quart of this next time I get sick! This sounds blows chicken noodle soup away!
My non-seafood loving husband was excited to see a huge plate of Angus beef short ribs headed our way. They serve these flaming with rice and a fresh salad. The flavor of the beef was rich, slightly sweet and sticky, very similar to bulgogi beef. My husband all but sucked the meat off the bones!
For dessert, we were brought out fried sweet cheese rolls with tiny scoops of vanilla ice cream and a bright orange row of what I later learned was cheddar cheese powder! This dessert was SO GOOD! I dipped my cheese roll in the cheese powder and the flavors just went together. Crazy huh? I’ll definitely be back for that dessert soon!
I’m so excited for you all to try this place. The owner is still working to make it super comfortable on the patio and will be adding fans before the crazy summer heat gets here. The patio area is surrounded by mostly all edible plants and flowers.
Sensa isn’t an extremely large restaurant but there are about twenty tables inside and out and a large wrap-around bar with tons of seating. Great addition to our community! BAHFL card participant too!
